I'm getting back into reading some fiction and am currently into Will Self. In addition to fiction he also writes opinion pieces and journalism for, amongst others, The Independent. Although I am not a huge fan of writing that is excessively fantastic his work manages to remain based in reality and he as an intelligent, critical and humorous voice. It is a combination that English authors seem to express better than any other. A personal aspect I really appreciate about Will is that he is very much into long walks. The New York Times did an article on him documenting one of his walks. It included a 26 mile walk from his South London home to Heathrow Airport and then from Kennedy Airport to Manhattan.
